The Millwall striker was a reported Sunderland target last summer.

Lee Gregory’s situation at Millwall should have Sunderland’s ears pricked.
Sunderland were linked with a move for Gregory when Chris Coleman was manager [Daily Mail] and would be wise to consider him again after the loss of strikers Jerome Sinclair (confirmed) and Josh Maja (expected) this month.
The 30-year-old has scored or made 13 goals in 26 games for Millwall in this season’s Championship, and boasts a record of 44 in 78 at League One level.
According to his manager, however, Gregory is ‘taking his time’ over the new deal offered to him after entering the final six months of his existing one [London News Online].

And the Lions may find themselves increasingly open to offers the longer that goes on – knowing the Yorkshireman will leave them for nothing if an agreement cannot be reached by the summer.
For Sunderland, there are perhaps few better-value deals to be had this month.

And while a move to the Stadium of Light would entail a (possibly temporary) drop down to the third tier, the chance to return to his native north could appeal to Gregory.
