Newcastle have been linked with both Terrier and Martins.

Since Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez's dialogue with owner Mike Ashley, transfer reports have flown in from left, right and centre over possible signings at St. James' Park - and two could help form the perfect front three.

Newcastle need help in attack after managing just 19 Premier League goals in 23 games - with three of those coming in their last game during a 3-0 win over Cardiff City.

Salomon Rondon has been one of the club's best performers, holding the ball up and scoring five of Newcastle's 19 goals. But it is the players in and around the Venezuela international that need improving.

The Chronicle have claimed that Newcastle have entered talks with Atletico Madrid over a move for Portugal international Gelson Martins from Atletico Madrid, and he would be a top signing on loan until the end of the season.

Meanwhile, French newspaper L'Equipe claim Martin Terrier is also a loan target for Newcastle from Olympique Lyonnais. Now, there is not suggestion that Newcastle will make signings between now and January 31 - but the links are promising.

Martins, 23, has incredulous speed and bags of skills, as well as an eye for goal that saw him score and create 26 goals last season. Terrier, meanwhile, has shown off his creativity and speed for Lyon in the Champions League this term.

A front three of Martins, Terrier and Rondon would give Newcastle the speed, flair, goals and strength to finally push themselves out of a relegation dogfight. Benitez would have all the tools necessary to go on and mirror last season's 10th.

It remains to be seen if the duo will be lured to Tyneside, though. L'Equipe say Lyon do not want to lose Terrier, while Martins is attracting interest from the likes of Monaco, Arsenal, Wolves, AC Milan and Besiktas.
