Anthony Ralston suffers in a big way if Celtic sign Fernando Fonseca.
You could forgive Anthony Ralston for being annoyed if Celtic go and sign Fernando Fonseca.
According to The Scottish Sun, Celtic are lining up a £2 million bid for the Porto right-back.
And it would be so much harder for Ralston to make a name for himself at the Hoops if Brendan Rodgers brings in Fonseca.
Ralston has for a while seemed like the long-term replacement for the aging and declining Mikael Lustig at Parkhead.
But a deal for the Portuguese defender would be a very clear indication from Rodgers that he doesn’t trust the 20-year-old completely just yet.
Plus, Fonseca is only 21. If he joins the Bhoys, for £2 million, then he would be Lustig’s heir. It would be a different story if the one-time Juventus target was 30, but he isn’t.
Ralston starred for Celtic in the 3-0 win over Airdrie this past weekend, in what was only his third start under Rodgers this season.
It seems like a long time ago that the youngster was marking Neymar in Champions League games, and if Fonseca joins then Ralston – who spent the second half of last season on loan at Dundee United – only moves further away from that sort of prominence.
