Leeds fans got their first glimpse of Kiko Casilla in action for the Whites on Monday as the goalkeeper played the full 90 minutes of the under-23 side's 3-2 victory over Southampton at Tadcaster.
Casilla was on the bench for the first-team's defeat to Stoke City at the weekend. And with Bailey Peacock-Farrell performing quite well in the game, he would have known how important it was that he impressed when given a chance for Carlos Corberan's side.
The under-23s picked up a dramatic victory as they came from 2-1 down during the second-half to claim the win. And while Casilla was unable to keep a clean sheet, he would have likely been very happy with his bow for his new club.
The Spaniard looked assured with the ball at his feet - producing a couple of stunning passes to start counter attacks - and his handling was superb, particularly from crosses.
He could have done little about the two goals that Leeds conceded. And many of the fans on social media appear to be delighted with what they have seen from the 32-year-old.
Some are suggesting that he should go straight into the starting lineup for Marcelo Bielsa's side's clash with Rotherham this weekend, with many believing that he is going to prove to be a fantastic signing during the coming months.
Here is how some of the supporters reacted to Casilla's first appearance for the Whites...
Really impressed with Casilla tonight, claimed absolutely everything in the box, distribution was 1st class too!! Oh and no one would have kept those 2 goals out think some people are on the wind up #LUFC— ASW (@Awi1co) January 21, 2019
I hate to disparage any footballer because there are lots of contributing factors as to why anyone looks good or bad in any given run of matches but in all honesty I never rated Blackman from watching him in the U23s. Casilla looks like an upgrade in every sense. #lufc— Tommy (@tommy_lufc) January 21, 2019
Thought Casilla was decent, good with his feet and decent with crosses. Hope he starts vs Rotherham tbh— Josh Firth (@jfirthlufc) January 21, 2019
Under 23 games is good, number 8 & 4 look brill,— GJR (@GregJReilly09) January 21, 2019
Casilla looks the Business great feet, always available, telling the lads where to make the runs, stays on his line, catches the ball from crosses.
Halme looking very confident in defence, and Casilla is a very dominating presence, commanding his area very well. Try’s to start counter attacks very fast from the back, all good so far! @LUFC— ⚽️Arron Burdon⚽️ (@ABurdon_Ents) January 21, 2019
casilla looks great with his hands, bit nervy with the ball at his feet - hopefully adjusts for when he’s in the first team— Daniel (@Daniel_LUFC) January 21, 2019
