Leeds flops Jay-Roy Grot and Caleb Ekuban had very interesting weekends

Caleb Ekuban and Jay-Roy Grot are now at Trabzonspor and VVV Venlo after scoring just one Championship goal each for Leeds United.

It was an interesting weekend for two strikers loaned out by Leeds United over the summer.

Both Jay-Roy Grot and Caleb Ekuban departed Elland Road after scoring just two Championship goals between them in the 2017/18 season. But, having joined VVV Venlo and Trabzonspor respectively, they are finding goals easier to come by.

Grot came off the bench in stoppage time in VVV’s trip to ADO Den Haag on Saturday and he certainly made an impact. The giant Dutchman scored his third goal of the season in minute 96 to lift the surprise packages to seventh in the Eredivisie table.

Ekuban, meanwhile, also had a day to remember.

The Ghanaian has been in superb form in recent weeks and took his tally to four goals in his last four games during Trabzonspor’s clash with table-toppers Istanbul BB.

Unfortunately, this came just a minute after Ekuban had put through his own net – a rare mistake from a player in fine fettle that helped the Istanbul-based side to a 4-2 win.

Speaking to Haber61 earlier in January, Ekuban admitted that he’d love to stay at Trabzonspor and make his loan move permanent. One own goal is unlikely to change that.
