Everton will reportedly make an eight-figure bid for Michy Batshuayi this week.

According to a report from The Sun (20/1; page 67), Everton are planning to make a £40 million bid for Michy Batshuayi during the next week after a change of plans.

Marco Silva wants to add a new striker during this window, and the report suggests that he had hoped to sign Batshuayi on loan with a view to a permanent move at the end of the season.

However, The Sun (20/1; page 67) reports that with Chelsea not keen on a loan deal, Everton are now preparing to make the eye-watering move to sign the Belgian on a permanent basis, and could make their bid in the coming days.

It does appear to be a big gamble from the Toffees to make such a substantial offer to sign Batshuayi given that his loan deal at Valencia was terminated this month.

The 25-year-old scored just once in La Liga before his return to Stamford Bridge, and he has not reached double figures for league goals in a single season since leaving Marseille in 2016.

If Silva is confident that Batshuayi is the man who can establish himself as the leading striker at Goodison Park, then paying £40 million could look to be a very smart move. But the Belgian will have a lot to prove after struggling in Spain.
