Rangers beat HJK Helsinki in a friendly at Ibrox today.
Rangers were in friendly action today, beating HJK Helsinki 3-2 ahead of their return to Scottish Premiership action.
As part of the deal to sign Alfredo Morelos from HJK Helsinki, Rangers arranged an Ibrox friendly with the Finnish club, with the game taking place today.
Steven Gerrard went with a strong side after Friday’s Scottish Cup clash with Cowdenbeath was called off, and Scott Arfield opened the scoring for the Gers.
However, HJK hit back almost immediately, with Kevin Kouassivi-Benissa equalising – and the same thing happened again in the second half, with Nikola Katic scoring before Lassi Lappalainen equalised.
Daniel Candeias scored the winner though, handing Rangers a 3-2 victory to kick off 2019 in the right way for Gerrard’s side.
However, there was a late concern as left back Borna Barisic went down with another injury, having only just come back from a spell on the sidelines.
After the game, boss Gerrard told Rangers TV that he was ‘worried’ by Barisic’s injury because he was pounding the ground in pain, but oddly suggested that you would need to ask Barisic whether the injury is bad.
“I don’t know, you’ll have to ask Borna,” said Gerrard. “He had me worried because he tapped the floor about 55 times, but I’m not sure, you’ll have to ask Borna. He looks like he’s moving okay now,” he added.
Rangers fans spotted these comments, and believe that Gerrard is now getting frustrated with Barisic’s injury problems, noticing that Gerrard seemed ‘miffed’ and thinks Barisic needs to toughen up, with some even doubting the Croatian’s role in the team moving forward.
