Listen to the new single from Ben Howard, “Heave Ho”.
English singer-songwriter Ben Howard is back with a brand new song. He released his debut EP Games in the Dark back in 2008 and followed it up with two subsequent EPs before the release of his debut studio album in 2011, Every Kingdom. It featured such hits as “Old Pine”, “Keep Your Head Up”, “Only Love”, “The Fear” and “The Wolves”, and was one of the significant releases of the year for many lovers of accessible acoustic indie.
Three years later he released his second studio effort – I Forget Where We Were – in October 2014, and it became the artist’s first number one record. His third album – Noonday Dream – released in 2018 was also well received by critics, and it looks like he has made a crucial return for 2019, with shows and a new single. Listen here:
“Heave Ho” is an accomplished, satisfying single; exactly what you’d expect from Ben Howard at this point. It’s not the type of cut that will draw in new audiences, but it will definitely strike a chord with his already established fanbase. He’s not exactly a musician we expect to experiment, but it would be interesting to see Howard break away from his comfort zone and subvert expectations – it would definitely help build buzz for a potential 2019 release.
The Brit Award-winning musician likely has more in store for us, and we’ll be perfectly happy to hear it as long as the material maintains the latest standard set by “Heave Ho”.
