Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has suggested to The Scotsman that he does not plan to sign former Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure in the January transfer window.

According to a recent report in Gazzetta.gr, Celtic are planning to sign Toure this month (click here to read more).

The former Barcelona star is a free agent at the moment, having left Olympiacos in December 2018.

Celtic manager Rodgers, though, has also suggested that he does not plan to sign the Ivory Coast international in the January transfer window.

The former Liverpool manager has also ruled out making a move for 28-year-old Everton central midfielder James McCarthy.

According to The Mirror (print edition, page 66, Sunday, January 13, 2019), the Hoops are interested in the Republic of Ireland international, claiming that the midfielder is set to realise his boyhood dream and move to the Glasgow giants on loan (click here to read more).

Rodgers told The Scotsman: "Yaya Toure? Well, his brother’s here [Kolo Toure is on the coaching staff at Celtic] but he’s not one we’re looking at.

“Scott McTominay is a talented young player but there’s nothing to add to that and the same goes for James McCarthy.”

Dream remains a dream

Back in September 2014, McCarthy told The Irish Independent how he dreamt of playing for Celtic and of his disappointment at being released by the Glasgow giants when he was just 14 years of age.

It seems that McCarthy’s dream of playing for Celtic will not be realised just yet.
