HITC Sport understands Birmingham are poised to sign Swedish winger Kerim Mrabti on a free transfer.

Birmingham City have agreed a deal to sign Swedish winger Kerim Mrabti, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Blues boss Garry Monk confirmed earlier this week they were in advanced talks with a target and it appears Mrabti is the player in question.

Mrabti is a free agent after leaving Djurgardens IF in November and he is set to become Birmingham’s one and only new signing during this month’s transfer window.

Birmingham are restricted to signing just one player this month due to the transfer embargo placed on the club for breaching FFP regulations.

Mrabti can play as a forward or an attacking midfielder and his versatility will bolster Monk’s attacking options at St Andrew’s.

The 24-year-old is highly-regarded in his homeland and has previously attracted the interest of Newcastle United.

Mrabti has played 77 top flight games in Sweden’s Allsvenskan, scoring 18 goals and providing 14 assists.

Birmingham are currently in eighth spot in the Championship table, just four points adrift of the play-off spots.
