Liverpool have been linked with the young centre-back.
Liverpool fans will invariably argue that Jurgen Klopp already has the best defence in Europe.
But the numbers say otherwise.
Despite only conceding 10 goals in 22 Premier League games, it’s been a different story for Liverpool in the Champions League.
Klopp’s side conceded seven times in six group-stage outings this season. Sixteen teams in the competition have shipped the same amount or fewer.
The Reds don’t have the best defence on the continent, but they might if the German manager signs Eder Militao.
Let’s leave aside finances for a moment and consider what Liverpool’s back five would look like, if they signed the 20-year-old.
Klopp would have Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, Militao and Andy Robertson.
That is a stupidly-good defence – including goalkeeper – and one that could maybe even help last year’s Champions League runners-up go one better this season.
Joe Gomez, Van Dijk’s best centre-back partner, is brilliant, but Militao and the Dutchman is something else altogether and if it’s feasible, Klopp should get it done.
