Leeds United are sitting pretty at the top of the Championship table.

Luke Ayling has told Leeds United’s official website that he is desperate to achieve his dream of playing in the Premier League as the Whites continue to sit at the top of the Championship table.

Ayling, 27, has returned to the side at right-back after almost two months on the sidelines that saw the ex-Arsenal academy player miss seven Championship fixtures.

The former Bristol City star – who joined Leeds in the summer of 2016 for a bargain £750,000 (Mail) – has clocked up 21 appearances in all competitions for the Whites this season, captaining the side seven times.

He was asked what it would mean to gain promotion with Leeds come May, as the club sit four points clear of second-placed Norwich City. He answered, stating it would be a dream come true.

“It has always been a dream of everyone’s in the dressing room here to play in the Premier League,” Ayling said. “It is still very early though, we still have four months to go and nearly every team to play again.

“We just need to take it game by game, but hopefully we can do something special come the end of it.”

Ayling is set to reach 100 appearances for Leeds in February, having played 95 times for Leeds. He has also shown his versatility in that time, playing at centre-back on occasion despite naturally being a right-back.

The ex-Yeovil Town star has never played in the Premier League despite coming through the ranks at Arsenal, and is certainly the closest he has ever been of reaching the top flight.

Leeds and Ayling are next in action on Saturday afternoon as they travel south to Stoke-on-Trent to take on Nathan Jones’ Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium.
