Former Cardiff City midfielder Gary Medel could return to the Premier League this month amid links with Burnley and West Ham United.

Gary Medel looked set for a return to the Premier League this month, with West Ham United on the lookout for a midfielder capable of replacing the departing Pedro Obiang at the London Stadium.

The Chilean ankle-biter, who spent the 2013/14 season with Cardiff City, has been the subject of two bids from the Hammers in recent weeks, according to Milliyet, with the most recent standing at £7.7 million.

Suddenly, however, Manuel Pellegrini’s side are facing competition for Medel’s signature from the other top flight side wearing claret and blue.

According to Takvim, Burnley have also expressed an interest in bringing the two-time Copa America winner to England.

The 31-year-old is a midfielder renowned for his relentless work ethic and will to win, meaning he would be a perfect fit for Sean Dyche’s Clarets’ side while potentially offering more attacking freedom for the likes of Dwight McNeil and Jeff Hendrick.

Milliyet have added that Besiktas want £9 million for the former Sevilla and Inter Milan ace, however, meaning West Ham will have to raise their bid if they are to make a third offer. It remains to be seen whether Burnley are willing to match them.
