Manchester City legend Yaya Toure could reportedly be on his way to the Scottish Premiership after leaving Olympiakos.

Celtic fans could be forgiven for taking sensational links to one Yaya Toure with a pinch of salt.

Gazzetta.gr claimed on Monday that the Hoops were plotting an ambitious bid to bring the 35-year-old to Parkhead with Brendan Rodgers hoping for support from Yaya’s older brother, the Hoops’ coach Kolo Toure.

But it seems that the prospect of seeing the former Barcelona and Manchester City midfielder pull on the famous green and white shirt is not as outlandish as it seems.

Speaking during his appearance on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football (15 January, 7:00pm), Toure confirmed that he had plans to speak to Rodgers about a stunning move to Glasgow.

“Let me speak with Kolo and I’ll speak with Brendan Rodgers and maybe we will see,” he said.

There is no doubt the three-time Premier League champion would be a high-profile and headline-grabbing signing at a time when Celtic’s Old Firm rivals Rangers are making a real splash in the transfer market.

But whether Celtic should really offer Yaya a fresh start remains to be seen. The veteran Ivorian was released by Olympiakos after just five appearances a month ago, failing to live up to lofty expectations in Greece.
