Garry Thompson has ripped into Aston Villa's 'disgraceful' performance against Wigan and stated that he wouldn't blame Tammy Abraham if he left the club this month.

Dean Smith's side suffered a humiliating 3-0 defeat against the Latics at the DW Stadium, with the away side failing to record a shot on target.

Holte End favourite Thomspon expressed his anger towards Villa's display and offered his thoughts on Chelsea loanee Abraham.

"Aston Villa were nothing short of disgraceful," Thompson told BBC Radio WM. "Very, very abject performance. No desire about them.

"And the Tammy Abraham thing at the end [like he was saying goodbye to the fans], if you're him and you're looking at that side who have just folded again. Would you want to hang about here? You couldn't blame him if he had it off on his toes now."

Striker Abraham is on-loan at Villa Park from Stamford Bridge and the 21-year-old's 16 league goals this term have attracted the attention of other Premier League clubs.

Sky Sports reported last week that Abraham turned down a temporary move to Wolves and opted to stay with his current club and help them earn promotion from the Championship.

But Villa's race to the Premier League is hitting a number of stumbling blocks as they have won only one of their last seven league matches and are five points outside of the playoff places.

Smith's side will host in-form Hull City at the weekend as Villa will be looking to get back to winning ways after suffering back-to-back 3-0 defeats - they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Swansea over a week ago.
