Dean Smith must make signing new left-back Aston Villa's priority

Aston Villa defender Neil Taylor has struggled throughout this season.

Dean Smith the manager

Dean Smith has just seen clear evidence that signing a left-back at Aston Villa should be his next priority.

Smith has made no secret of his desire to upgrade Villa’s defence, and the need for additions was very obvious this weekend.

The claret and blues sunk to a 3-0 defeat against Wigan Athletic at the weekend, and Neil Taylor’s display for Villa was awful.

There have been doubts about Taylor’s performances at Villa Park for a long time now.

And the Welsh international looks almost certain to need upgrading if Villa are to earn promotion.

Taylor was at fault for at least one of the goals which Villa conceded against Wigan, and he has looked shaky under both Steve Bruce and Smith now.

Villa are still thought to have money to spend, and Smith’s priority should now be to bring in a full-back to help side improve.
