Celtic are said to be interested in landing Everton midfielder James McCarthy, who has barely featured this term.

According to the Daily Mirror (printed edition, page 66, Sunday 13th June), Celtic want to sign James McCarthy from Everton three years after they originally were linked.

The Daily Record carried rumours in 2016 suggesting that Celtic were interested in landing the Irishman.

On that occasion Celtic were unable to get a deal over the line for the combative central midfielder, who was still playing an important role for Everton at the time.

McCarthy has fallen out of favour at Goodison Park now though, after injury, and Celtic’s chances of signing him are surely better this time around.

The Bhoys want the central midfielder to bolster their midfield ranks, as they battle for the title with Rangers.

McCarthy could offer energy to Brendan Rodgers’ men, if he was to sign at Parkhead.

And Celtic must feel that their chances of signing him this time around are far greater than three years ago, given McCarthy’s lack of football in recent times.
