Spice Girls film on the way

Spice Girls fans can rejoice, because what they wanted, what they really, really wanted, is on the way.

No, it's not a zigazig ah, but a new movie based on the band is in the works, the band's manager, Simon Fuller, has confirmed.

In an wide-ranging interview with Billboard, Fuller said; "What's coming next is that we are going to be doing lots of exciting things. We'll be making an animated movie and there's lots of exciting plans to come."

There was no further news on the upcoming film, with the majority of the Spice Girls subject matter revolving around their upcoming reunion tour.

It was announced in 2018 that the group - Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwel, Melanie Brown and Melanie Chisholm - would return to the stage without the involvement of Victoria Beckham, their first such reunion since 2007. Tickets for the stadium tour, which will begin in Manchester in May, went on sale in November, with demand being exceptionally high.

Fuller, however, wasn't surprised, saying; "To be honest with you, while it was clearly phenomenal, they are such an awesome phenomenon I expected it. The last tour we did seven or eight years ago the demand was equal, if not maybe even more. It's a global phenomenon", before adding; ""They're more timely now than ever and it's fantastic. I'm so happy for the girls. They deserve it."

Whilst the upcoming film will probably be released in 2020, it looks set to be a huge year for the band. They have dabbled in the film industry before, with Spice World being released in 1997. Whilst doing well at the box-office, critics didn't think much of it, and they'll be hoping the new release is a lot better.
