Greg Docherty suggested earlier this week that he would love to be recalled by Rangers.
These are exciting times at Ibrox after Steven Gerrard signed Steven Davis and Jermain Defoe on loan deals last week.
And Docherty, on loan at Shrewsbury Town, admitted to The Morning Star Online that he wouldn't mind being apart of Gerrard's project for the second half of the season.
He said: "With everything going on at the club — the win over Celtic, players like Davis and Jermain Defoe coming in — of course I was thinking it’d be great to be back involved in that this month but I’ve got to think about what’s best for me in the long term."
The 22-year-old has been brilliant for the League One side this season, flourishing in a more attacking role that Gers fans didn't see him in last term.
Gerrard has the option to bring him back to Glasgow, but did Docherty harm his chances on Saturday?
The former Hamilton midfielder was substituted 59 minutes into the 3-0 demolition by Charlton - the first time that he's been taken off in eight games across all competitions.
Gary McAllister is here in his Rangers gear, presumably to watch Greg Docherty. #Salop— Tom Leach (@TomLeach_Star) January 12, 2019
Worse yet, Gerrard's number two Gary McAllister was in attendance to watch him and it seems probable that Docherty may have hindered his hope of returning to Ibrox this month.
Being subbed before the hour mark indicates that he didn't have the best afternoon. It must be noted that recalling Docherty mid-season seemed unlikely in the first place, given the options that Gerrard still has, but any hope he did have might've been lost yesterday.
