Queens Park Rangers six game unbeaten run came to an end at Bramall Lane Saturday.
David McGoldrick scored the winner eight minutes before half-time, glancing in a header from Oliver Norwood's pinpoint cross.
The Blades moved into second with the win and they have enjoyed a fine campaign to date, with their automatic promotion hopes very much alive.
On paper, it was a narrow defeat and the QPR faithful have turned to Twitter to have their say, with many divided on the result.
After that terrible start, Rangers have also impressed under manager Steve McClaren this season, but Saturday's loss indicates their is still room for improvement.
Chris Wilder's side enjoyed much of the first period, with McGldrick's tenth goal of the season proving the difference at the break.
The R's did come out with more urgency in the second-half, with Luke Freeman missing a couple of chances but in the end it was to no avail.
The west Londoners drop to 11th in the Championship and face Preston next weekend, where fans will be hoping to celebrate their first league win of the New Year.

Unlucky boys, heads up and focus on the next one!— Martin Griffin (@MartinGriffin4) January 12, 2019
Tough match. Disappointing not to create too many opportunities however did not allow many either. One nice movement by Sheffield United to concede and that was that. Not too bad of an overall performance. Will recover for PNE.— Ken Whitelaw (@whitelawkr) January 12, 2019
Very predictable against a team who could be top 2 and certainly top 6.— Truth and Justice (@number8buser) January 12, 2019
We certainly arn’t at that level, nor will we be this season. Sorry if that hurts some but it’s the truth.
Squad depth and injuries are really against us right now. Have to get on with it and go again— jude. (@Judecairns_) January 12, 2019
Chance to close the gap on the playoffs lost ☹️— Ebere Eze (@TheEzeWay) January 12, 2019
Pathetic performance no way near standard to go up massive gap between Utd and us in quality. Wells up front away doesn't work. Too quiet and not strong enough and Toni doesn't know how to mark!!!!— SUPERHOOP (@SUPERHOOPA86) January 12, 2019
Can’t win them all onto the next one— (@georgeqprpage) January 12, 2019
Big flaw from Mclaren today bringing on Matt Smith for cousins. Very strange and wrong decision. Oteh for Wells and keep the attack going with pace. Silly Mclaren, silly.— Kevin Fitzgibbon (@lamoroma) January 12, 2019
