Lawrence Shankland is a player reportedly in demand, with Sunderland, Celtic and Swansea City claimed to be interested in Ayr United striker.

According to The Daily Record, Sunderland in League One in England are interested in signing Shankland from Ayr in the Scottish Championship in the January transfer window.

The report has also claimed of interest in the 23-year-old striker from Swansea City in the Championship in England.

The Scottish youngster has been playing well for Ayr this season, scoring 18 goals and providing four assists in 18 Scottish Championship appearances, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.

With Ayr aiming to win automatic promotion to the Scottish Premiership at the end of the season, it does not make much sense for the club to lose Shankland this month.

Ayr manager Ian McCall has released a statement on the club’s official website laying down the terms of any exits from his team.

McCall has made it clear that the club will not let any of the players leave this season, and has stated that the only way a deal could happen if the player is allowed to remain on loan at Ayr for the second half of the season.

“There has been a number of bids for our players however NO player will be leaving Somerset Park during this window,” McCall wrote on Ayr’s official website.

“The only type of deal acceptable to our club would involve an immediate loan back to Ayr United.”

It seems that if Sunderland and Swansea want to sign Shankland, then they will have to let the striker stay on loan Ayr until the end of the season.
