The new Aston Villa goalkeeper was comfortably his side’s best player on Saturday.

There wasn’t many positives for Aston Villa in Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at Wigan Athletic.
But some fans of the Villa Park side have found at least one: Lovre Kalinic.
The Croatia goalkeeper, making his second appearance for Aston Villa following a £7 million [The Telegraph] move from Ghent, was comfortably his team’s best player yesterday.
Okay so that isn’t saying much when you consider that Dean Smith’s side lost by three goals and didn’t manage a single shot on target, but it was a very tidy display from the 28-year-old nonetheless.
If not for Kalinic, the defeat would have been far more emphatic for the Villans who were saved by their goalkeeper on a number of occasions.
First, Josh Windass was denied with a stunning point-blank save from six yards, and he then denied Joe Garner with a smart stop before the break.
It wasn’t a perfect afternoon for Kalinic, whose distribution left a little to be desired, but he was the best of a very bad bunch yesterday and here’s what Aston Villa fans said post match.
