Aston Villa midfielder Jordan Lyden has reportedly suffered a season-ending injury.

Aston Villa fans on Twitter expressed their devastation for Jordan Lyden after it was reported that he has suffered a season-ending injury.

The Sun claims that the 22-year-old will miss the rest of the season following a freak accident in training after returning from his loan spell at Oldham.

It is said that Lyden damaged a muscle when taking a shot at the end of a training session as he is now expected to miss three months of action.

Australian-born Lyden was recently on loan at League Two Oldham, where he helped the club reach the fourth round of the FA Cup by beating Premier League side Fulham.

Upon his return to the Championship club, Lyden would have been hoping to impress manager Dean Smith, but his career at Villa may now be over because his contract ends in the summer, according to Transfrmarkt

Villa fans on Twitter were aware that Lyden’s contract will end in June as some felt it could be the end of the road for the midfielder.

During his time with the Midlands club, Lyden made eight senior appearances and represented the club’s U-23’s on over 50 occasions, scoring 10 goals and supplying one assist.

One fan stated that he ‘feels sorry’ for the Australian and that he is a ‘talented’ player, while others were looking forward to him ‘impressing’ the club’s new coaches before injury struck again.
