Samir Nasri made his first Premier League start for West Ham United this weekend, and it came against his former club.

Given the animosity that exists between the Arsenal fans and Samir Nasri, it perhaps says a lot about how good he was in West Ham's win on Saturday that many of the Gunners' supporters on social media begrudgingly praised the Frenchman's display.

Manuel Pellegrini's men picked up a hugely impressive three points at the London Stadium, with Declan Rice scoring the game's only goal with a superb finish shortly after the break.

As painful as the goal itself, and Arsenal's inability to find an equaliser, was, it was made worse for the visiting fans once they realised that it was Nasri who had provided the assist for the youngster, with a nice lay-off inside the box.

The 31-year-old was making his Premier League debut for the Irons, having made his first appearance following his arrival in the FA Cup win against Birmingham last weekend.

The midfielder was superb against his old club, creating plenty of openings for his teammates. And while many Arsenal fans never plan on praising Nasri again following his departure from the club nearly eight years ago, some supporters actually complimented his display.

There were several fans who were so infuriated and frustrated with their own midfield's showing, that they suggested that Nasri would get into the current Arsenal side and insisted that he outplayed all of Unai Emery's options in the middle of the park on Saturday.
