Ipswich Town supporters have taken to Twitter to comment on speculation suggesting defender James Collins is set to join the club on a free transfer until the end of the season.
According to a report in the Sun, Ipswich manager Paul Lambert has swooped in to sign Collins, with the defender a free agent following his exit from West Ham United earlier this season.
Collins is said to have been eyed by several Championship sides, with the report claiming he was poised to join Aston Villa. But a calf injury meant he missed out on a short-term deal at Villa Park.
Ipswich are in dire need of strengthening this month and several supporters commenting on Twitter feel the 35-year-old could be exactly the sort of addition they need.

Good shout. We need muscle, physicality. Not arguing for nastiness, but we need a bit of menace. Come on the town!— Suffolk Allotment Novice (@suffolkspear) January 10, 2019
Much needed if we can make this happen and he stays fit plus doesnt add to the loans either.— Bjs73 (@Bjs731) January 10, 2019

Collins straight in at CB, Chambo out to the right (experience suggests he's better than Spence).
James Collins would be an excellent signing IMO #itfc— Harry Butcher (@hurricane_hazer) January 10, 2019
The Tractor Boys are currently sitting at the bottom of the Championship table, ten points adrift of safety and facing a must-win clash with fellow strugglers Rotherham United at Portman Road this weekend.
Lambert has managed to pick up just five points from his ten games in charge, and Collins could be his fifth signing this month following the arrivals of Simon Dawkins, Callum Elder, Will Keane and Collin Quaner.
Ipswich have the worst defensive record in the Championship, conceding 46 goals in 26 games. Collins’ potential arrival could see captain Luke Chambers move to right-back or a change in formation with Chambers and on-loan Matthew Pennington the regular centre-back duo.
Collins has made over 270 Premier League appearances, while he has been capped over 50 times by the Welsh national team.
