Reading signed recent Rangers and Leeds loanees this week.
Ovie Ejaria also signed on loan, a month after he quit his loan at Scottish title hopefuls Rangers.
Both hope to play a key role for the 23rd placed Royals in the second half of the season.
Gomes has warned both of his new players that they must earn a spot in the team.
Gomes told the club website: "I’m glad to have two more players, and they will fight with the other players that we already have for a place in the starting XI.
"It will be a tough fight for them because our players are doing very well, and they have been training in a fantastic way. But we are happy to have two more talented players.
“But we cannot look at the new players who arrive and think that they are the solution for the problem. We must look for a solution with the players which we have."
Reading face Nottingham Forest this weekend hoping to spring an upset.
The chances are that one or both of Baker and Ejaria will be involved, but they will have to stand out and impress in their first training sessions to be picked to go straight into the team.
