West Ham have been linked with a January move for Newcastle midfielder Jonjo Shelvey, with the Daily Mail reporting that Manuel Pellegrini is prepared to splash out around £20 million to sign the midfielder, and some West Ham fans took to Twitter in reaction to the news.
The Hammers are currently in the midst of somewhat of a mini injury crisis in the midfield department, with Jack Wilshere, Carlos Sanchez and Manuel Lanzini all out with long-term problems.
And the Daily Mail suggest that West Ham could make a £20 million move for Newcastle ace Shelvey to address that issue.
Whether the 26-year-old is the man for the job, however, is debatable.
The Harold Hill-born midfielder has never really reached the levels that were expected of him when he was younger, but he is a solid performer nonetheless.
In today's day and age, £20 million doesn't go very far, so it might just be worth taking a punt on the Englishman.
Some West Ham fans took to Twitter in reaction to the news, and the majority of them don't seem to be too happy with the links to Shelvey...

You have to remember lanzini and Wilshere are both averagely injured for 6 months a year— caravancurlball (@gyppopower) 10 January 2019

Shelvey can’t even get in a poor Newcastle side. He is not any better than our current CMs steer clear of him IMO— mark speller (@supersonic_mark) 10 January 2019
Wouldn’t touch Shelvey ex, he’s a ticking time bomb and he’s lucky to not have seriously injured players with his tackles. We have far too many CM players on the books, why would we waste our money on such an average player?— Forever Boleyn (@ForeverBoleyn) 11 January 2019
Shelvey ? Bad move,not better than what we’ve got now,saw him v Man U & he was awful— errol buckeridge (@KimErrol) 11 January 2019
Shelvey is poor. Not what we need— Chris D'Astoli (@chrisdastoli) 10 January 2019
No thanks to Shelvey...why does he end up surplus requirement at every club he plays at??— Andrew Gay (@Andyinexile) 10 January 2019
The only way we should be interested in Shelvey is if they take Carroll in p/ex to get him off the wages.— Owen Radley (@owenradley) 10 January 2019
If Arnie wants to go, take £40m for him, shift his wages and use the money for a younger striker. I’d love him to stay but if he doesn’t want to be there, time to go
No need for Shelvey imho. Would rather spend the money on CDM,CB.— JB (@1MrLondon) 10 January 2019
He's 26. Why get another youngster alongside Rice who takes a few years to flourish and unproven then gets head hunted by bigger clubs?— James Reading (@JReadingAloud87) 10 January 2019
