As announced on Forest’s official website, Karanka asked to be released from his contract as the manager of the Reds, and the Championship club agreed to his request.

Moving on

Karanka’s decision to leave Forest does appear to be a strange, especially as Forest are very much in the running for the Championship playoffs this season.

The Reds, though, need to move on and find a suitable replacement before long, especially as there is still time for him to make signings in the January transfer window.

According to Sky Sports, Forest want to appoint former Watford and Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic as their new manager.

The Reds will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they take on Reading away from home in the Championship.
