Odion Ighalo allegedly makes decision on future with Southampton reportedly interested

Southampton could reportedly attempt to bring former Watford striker Odion Ighalo back to the Premier League from China.

Like so many before him, it seems the novelty of playing in China has worn off for Odion Ighalo.

Back in January 2017, the striker ended his goal-laden spell at Watford by sealing a £20 million switch to Chinese Super League outfit Changchun Yatai, according to the Sun.

But, after two years in the Far East, Ighalo is allegedly keen to return to the land where he made his name.

According to Sky Sports, the Nigerian international has his heart set on joining a Premier League club this month and he is expected to travel to the UK to discuss his future.

This could be good news for Southampton then, who Fanatik claim were ready to fight Fenerbahce for Ighalo’s signature.

The Saints are crying out for a goal-scorer and the 29-year-old would surely opt for a move to St Mary’s over joining the side who are currently second bottom in the Turkish top flight.

Southampton would have to break their transfer record to sign Ighalo, however, with Sky adding that Yatai want to recoup their £20 million investment.

Although the former Udinese and Granada man could be priceless for the Saints as Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side battle relegation.

He scored 15 goals in 37 Premier League matches with Watford in 2015/16 and hit the net 36 times in 55 games during his time in China.
