West Bromwich Albion’s worst fears came true on Friday.
Harvey Barnes has arguably been the Baggies’ best player in the first half of the season, scoring nine goals and assisting six more while thrilling supporters with his driving runs and eye for the spectacular.
But, in a major blow to West Brom’s promotion hopes, Barnes has now been re-called by parent club Leicester City, leaving a major hole in Darren Moore’s attack.
Although, if you ask many fans, the void could be filled by going all out for Bradley Dack.
According to the Sun (7 October, page 60) West Brom were already preparing a club-record £20 million bid for the Blackburn Rovers talisman, having seen a £15 million offer turned down at the end of the summer transfer window.
Dack and Barnes might be different players, but the former Gillingham star would offer a real goal threat in attack. He has scored ten goals in 22 Championship starts and is blessed with a real poacher’s instinct, not to mention the creativity and vision to open up opposition defences.
Barnes going back to Leicester is a blow. That's why personally I'd have kept Burke. We need to go all out for Dack now.— david john parkes (@parky5) January 11, 2019
Got to be Bradley Dack or @JackSowerby10 to replace Harvey Barnes surely— Jack Calvert (@JackCalvert123) January 11, 2019
Lai should sign deep and buy Bradley Dack— Richard Simon (@simonXavier2018) January 11, 2019
But he won't
So expect 31st Jan..... Giles Barnes
So gutted to hear about Barnes, one of the best players I've seen in an Albion shirt for a long time. But don't let this cover the fact that he wasn't our player anyway. Needs an immediate replacement on a permanent imo *Bradley Dack* #wba— (@Rxdriguezz_) January 11, 2019
Nick Powell or Bradley Dack to replace Barnes.. even tho Dack would cost a bomb— Psalm 23 ❤ (@wba_tommo) January 11, 2019
It’s also an opportunity for likes of Leko to step up and deliver on his potential. Would be more confident if the board made a statement and went and bid for someone like Dack though #WBA— Paul (@P4ulG87) January 11, 2019
What our board need to do is invest. We would all love to see us sign someone like Dack, who would probably guarantee promotion. However I don’t think we have any chance. Will more than likely be a signing from abroad or someone like McCarthy on loan #WBA— Paul (@P4ulG87) January 11, 2019
Let’s go get Bradley Dack now #wba— Mike Robertson (@Baggieboy75Mike) January 11, 2019.I’d go all out for Bradley Dack. £12m + £3m if we get promoted. Same type of player, young, hungry.
