The Tottenham Hotspur ace is rumoured to be leaving, and some Celtic fans think a particular tweet could well be a sign – or a leak – of a Parkhead return.

Tottenham midfielder Victor Wanyama during the UEFA Champions League match between Tottenham Hotspur and FC Barcelona at Wembley Stadium, London on Wednesday 3rd October 2018.

Victor Wanyama has been linked with a departure from Tottenham Hotspur in recent weeks, with the Daily Mail reporting that the midfielder was one of several Spurs players earmarked to be moved on by the Premier League club.

As is often the case during the transfer window, speculation will come from every corner regarding a player’s future, with agents, clubs and peers all fair game for journalists and reporters in terms of where they see a player going (or not), plenty of reading between the lines and so on.

However, the latest source of speculation has emerged from an unlikely source – the official Twitter account of a football body, in this case the UEFA Europa League.

On Friday, the account tweeted an image of Wanyama with the caption “Friday Feeling”, which in itself seems pretty innocuous.

However, the picture in question of the player is one of him in Celtic kit, from when he was part of the Scottish Premiership outfit between 2011 and 2013, plus emojis of a shamrock and three flexing biceps.

Given the speculation surrounding Wanyama’s future at the moment, with West Bromwich Albion (Daily Mail) and Roma (La Roma 24) two reported potential destinations, it’s left some people scratching their heads as to why that picture was used.

Has the admin just plucked the first photo of the Kenya midfielder they found in the digital library without thinking? Or could there be a deeper meaning to it, considering the inclusion of the shamrock and bicep emojis?

Whatever the reason – if any – behind the choice of picture, some Celtic fans have taken to Twitter to express their opinions:

Wanyama is contracted to Spurs until 2021 and is valued by Transfermarkt at 25million Euro (around £22million).
