With Burnley having endured a dreadful first half of the Premier League season, few would have expected that any of their players would be worth £50 million right now.
But, according to The Sun, that is the price Burnley have demanded for England international centre-back James Tarkowski with Liverpool interested in bringing the 26-year-old to Anfield to aid their title bid.
The Reds have suffered with injuries at the back of late with Dejan Lovren joining Joel Matip and Joe Gomez on the sidelines after limping out of the 2-1 FA Cup defeat against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday.
And The Sun believes that Jurgen Klopp has identified Tarkowski as a short-term loan signing.
“There are a lot of rumours out there, and not much fact. The most amazing one is the Tarky one. That is just bizarre,” said the gravel-voiced gaffer.
Liverpool may be forced to make do with the options already at their disposal though it is expected that Lovren is expected to return after this weekend’s trip to Brighton while Gomez should be back soon after missing the festive period with a broken foot.
Burnley, meanwhile, need to keep Tarkowski at Turf Moor with their Premier League life on the line.
