Middlesbrough appear to not be interested in snapping up reported Aston Villa target Romaine Sawyers.

According to the Northern Echo, Middlesbrough sources have told them that they are not interested in Romaine Sawyers, which could leave Aston Villa a free run to snap up the attacking midfielder.

Sky Sports have suggested that Villa want to snap up Sawyers from Brentford, but it was initially thought that they faced competition.

However, Boro are no longer believed to be in the race for Sawyers, which could boost Villa’s chances of landing him significantly.

Villa boss Dean Smith knows the playmaker well from their time together at Brentford, and he could be an appealing addition to the claret and blues’ attacking ranks.

Sawyers would offer Villa another creative outlet going forward, as they push for promotion.

The 27-year-old would be in competition with the likes of Jack Grealish, Anwar El Ghazi and Yannick Bolasie for a place in Smith’s starting line-up, if he was to join up with the Midlands side.
