Newcastle are linked with a move for Empoli midfielder Zajc.

Miha Zajc’s agent has told TuttoMercatoWeb that his client is perfectly suited to the Premier League after Newcastle United and Huddersfield Town were linked with a move for the Empoli playmaker.

CalcioMercato claimed last week that 24-year-old Zajc was a target for both Newcastle and Huddersfield this month, with a fee of £5.4million said to be enough to land the Slovenia international.

Newcastle are yet to sign any players this month with owner Mike Ashley still said to be looking to sell the club, but fans are pessimistic of completing any deals with Ashley still at the club.

But Zajc’s agent could have given Newcastle fans some encouragement, by suggesting that two Premier League clubs are interested in his client and that Zajc is perfect for the top flight of English football.

“It is true that at least two Premier League clubs have shown interest in Miha,” Zajc’s agent said. “The profile of a player like him in England is increasingly sought after.

“It brings unconventional solutions and added value to the team. In my opinion, the speed with which Miha perceives football is ideal for the Premier League. But the market has just begun.”

Zajc is renowned for his close dribbling, eye for goal but most importantly his ability to unlock a defence and create something out of nothing. Despite starting just 10 Serie A matches this season, he has scored twice and created three.

He has a contract at Empoli until the summer of 2022, but could be allowed to leave the club after the breakthrough of Hamed Junior Traore has seen Zajc drop to the bench.
