West Bromwich Albion fans have taken to Twitter to give their reaction to speculation linking the club with a move for Everton central midfielder James McCarthy in the January transfer window.
The 28-year-old Republic of Ireland international central midfielder has not been in action for 12 months following a serious injury to his right leg last January.
“He has been gradually stepping up his training since early October and Everton are keen for him to get some regular first-team football under his belt,” adds the report on Skysports.com.
West Brom fans have given his take on McCarthy on Twitter, and below are some of the best comments:
If he can stay fit McCarthy would be a quality addition— Neil Porter (@porterneil79) January 5, 2019
Hope James McCarthy comes in January too— allnewswba (@allnewswba) January 4, 2019
McCarthy, Holgate, Hause and maybe another attacker would be a good transfer window imo https://t.co/Cpefg59L78— Callum (@CallumWBA_) January 4, 2019
McCarthy was a regular player for a better team before his injury though. Also a hard worker from what some Everton fans have told me— JeevesWBA (@GSWBA5) January 3, 2019
McCarthy and Barry midfield pairing could still do a job in the Premier League— Callum (@CallumWBA_) January 3, 2019
Not disputing McCarthy is a good player but he won't be match fit and our midfield is slow enough anyway.— Cads (@blackcountrycad) January 3, 2019
McCarthy is a good player who will add to the West Brom team in the second half of the season in their quest to win automatic promotion from the Championship to the Premier League.
With Jake Livermore serving a suspension, and the likes of Gareth Barry, Chris Brunt and James Morrison in their 30s, Darren Moore’s side could do with a new midfielder.
McCarthy will be hungry for playing time, and the former Wigan Athletic star will be asset for West Brom.
