Harry Kane came off the bench to wrap up a 7-0 win for Tottenham Hotspur against Tranmere last night.

Kane came on when Spurs were 6-0 up, and scored his 159th goal for the club.

Some Tottenham fans may have been worried about risking Kane in case he got injured in a needless appearance.

Former Manchester City player and pundit Rodney Marsh had a harsher take, branding Spurs 'classless' for rubbing in their dominance over the lower league side.

His comments attracted the ire of former Spurs defender Graham Roberts, who hit out at Marsh in a later deleted tweet.

Marsh had little time for Roberts' reply, and doubled down on his comments

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino had his own take on why he brought Kane on, and said it was because he wanted to show Tranmere respect.

Pochettino said he did it for the Tranmere fans, explaining via Football.London: "For different reasons I decide to make a change and put Kane on the pitch but one of them is that It’s important to show respect to the people here so they could see Harry Kane, who is an icon in English football. It is difficult in that division to see it."
