Brendan Rodgers made it clear after the worrying 1-0 defeat to Rangers that January signings are a must.
The weaknesses in Celtic’s squad were brutally exposed by a tough-tackling and forward-thinking Rangers side who were more than deserving of their victory at Ibrox. As a result, the Scottish Premiership champions are expected to make a number of moves this month.
The Express have reported that the £15 million West Brom flop Oliver Burke is a target while PSG’s highly-rated USA international Timothy Weah has also been tipped to join on loan, via the Daily Record.
“The question is whether Celtic can actually get better players than they already heave,” said the former Liverpool and England winger, who had a dreadful spell in charge of Celtic from 1999 to 2000.
“I don’t think top young players in the Premier League are going to leave to go to Scotland now.”
Celtic have used the loan market effectively in recent years with a number of talented prospects moving to Parkhead from Premier League clubs, such as Charly Musonda, Patrick Roberts and Jason Denayer.
And it remains to be seen whether Rodgers has his eye on a number of English-based youngsters as he aims to enhance a Celtic team that have lost three of their last six games.
