Glasgow Rangers are one of a number of sides hoping to land Dominic Solanke, but Steven Gerrard reportedly faces a fight to get him to Ibrox.

Steven Gerrard may have felt earlier this week that Rangers’ chances of bringing Dominic Solanke in on loan were essentially over as he seemingly edged closer to a move elsewhere.

The Sun recently reported that the Gers were one of the teams that wanted to sign Solanke this month. Gerrard has already signed two players from Liverpool during his tenure, and is threatening to help turn Ryan Kent into the real gem that many expected him to be before he seemed to lose his way.

But their hopes of bringing Solanke to Ibrox appeared to be dashed. The Daily Mail reported that he was heading to Crystal Palace for a medical, seemingly confirming that a move to Selhurst Park was very close.

However, perhaps the door may just have opened ever so slightly for Rangers to have another look.

The Daily Mail is now reporting that Palace are considering Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi after their move for Solanke hit a snag. The report suggests that he has a slight hamstring issue and has a number of offers that he wishes to take his time over considering.

Rangers probably remain underdogs, especially as The Sun’s report suggested that Liverpool wanted to send him to a Premier League club. But perhaps this potential opportunity could tempt Gerrard to step up his efforts.

While Ovie Ejaria’s loan was a disappointment, Kent was the star of the show when the Gers beat Celtic, providing the assist and giving the Hoops a torrid time.

If some of Solanke’s admirers become at all put off by his minor injury, then perhaps Rangers could find themselves in a good position in the race once again.
