The new year period is often the source of numerous best-of lists and highlights reels, but Channel 4 will be airing their own commemoration of the hit comedy, The Inbetweeners.
When the announcement was made, many fans thought it was a new episode, but these hopes were quickly dashed. What we get is Fwends Reunited, a one-off special that will see all four original cast members (Simon Bird, Joe Thomas, Blake Harrison and James Buckley) reminisce on their time on the show.
The two-hour special will include exclusive behind-the-scenes interviews, a run-through of the show's memorable moments, and the Inbetweeners Awards, with many more surprises expected. It is the first time the four actors, who played Will McKenzie, Simon Cooper, Neil Sutherland and Jay Cartwright respectively, have appeared on screen together since The Inbetweeners 2 in 2014, a feature film spin-off from the television series.
The original series aired on E4 from 2008 to 2010, with each of the three seasons consisting of six, 25-minute episodes. A feature-film, The Inbetweeners Movie, was released in 2011, which saw the group go on holiday in Malia, before a sequel in 2014 which followed their escapades in Australia. The television series followed the lads as they blundered their way through sixth form, with the show being lauded for its portrayal of school life and male bonding, spawning several catchphrases and famous scenes in the process.
Whilst there are currently no plans for a fourth season or third film, it will be good to see the four actors reunite, for their chemistry was the main selling point of the whole project. Every fan has their own personal favourite moment, and it will be interesting to see what Bird, Thomas, Harrison and Buckley rank as their most cherished scene.
You can watch Fwends Reunited on Tuesday 1 January, on Channel 4 at 9pm.
