Middlesbrough, Derby County, Preston North End and Wigan Athletic are all said keen on the young Newcastle United midfielder.

Newcastle United’s Dan Barlaser is attracting interest from Middlesbrough, Derby County, Preston North End and Wigan Athletic as he enters the final six months of his contract, according to the Daily Mail.

Midfielder Barlaser has impressed on loan to Accrington Stanley this season, and it is claimed there is a feeling within Newcastle’s academy that he is worth a new contract.

The newspaper adds, however, that progress on renewals has been slow amid talk about a takeover at St James’ Park, where the 21-year-old Tyneside-native would like to remain.

And that is said to have alerted Championship sides, Middlesbrough, Derby, Preston and Wigan, who can sign Barlaser for free this summer should an offer from Newcastle fail to arrive.

But a cut-price January move could be on the cards, with Barlaser’s loan spell due to expire in the early New Year.

Accrington are, however, keen to extend the Turkish youth international’s deal, according to the Daily Mail.

Both Middlesbrough and Derby are competing for promotion this season, and moves to either club could appeal to Barlaser.

Preston and Wigan have each experienced a dip in form of late, and sit 17th and 19th respectively.
