Spurs have been excellent for the most part this season, and have recieved high words of praise from fans and pundits alike.
Football is a fickle old game, however, and following Saturday's defeat to Wolves, Tottenham have seemingly been ruled out of the title race already.
Spurs currently sit nine points adrift of league leaders Liverpool in the Premier League table, and Mauricio Pochettino's side can ill afford to drop too many more points, if they are to have any chance of sitting top of the pile come the end of the season.
Merson believes that won't be the case, though.
He highlighted how Tottenham seem to play much better when they are not being talked about as genuine title contenders, when speaking to Sky Sports:
"The pressure's off Tottenham now, and they'll be like the Harlem Globetrotters. They ripped Everton up, they smashed Bournemouth at home. But then the pressure was on, now it's off."
Tottenham have a great opportunity to bounce back immediately when they travel to Cardiff City tomorrow, and a win over Neil Warnock's men will definitely see them close the gap on those above them in the table, with Manchester City hosting Liverpool on Thursday night.
