Tottenham Hotspur fell further behind Liverpool at the weekend.
After Boxing Day, Tottenham were beginning to emerge as dark horses for the Premier League title.
Spurs had overtaken Manchester City to move into second place and were bearing down on leaders Liverpool.
Tottenham proceeded to lose their following game, 3-1 at home to Wolves.
This happened before Liverpool took on Arsenal in Saturday’s late kick-off, and Reds boss Jurgen Klopp insisted his side did not blink at learning of Tottenham’s defeat.
Klopp told Liverpool’s official website that the Reds were too focused on their own task, and did not celebrate Tottenham’s loss in any way.
He said: “Before the game, we all heard about the result of Tottenham, but do you think the party started already?
“I didn’t see a smile on any face in the dressing room. We came here in this situation with 54 points after 20 matchdays with completely being focused on the situation.”
Liverpool remained focused against Arsenal, winning 5-1 in a one sided game.
The Reds have a nine point gap over Spurs who fell to third, with Manchester City seven points back from Liverpool in second.
Liverpool’s next match is away to Manchester City on January 3.
