The Arsenal playmaker has been really disappointing this season.

Ex footballer Paul Merson enjoying day two of the Cheltenham Festival at Cheltenham Racecourse on March 11, 2015 in Cheltenham, England.

Paul Merson spoke exclusively to the Daily Star, and shared his belief that Arsenal have got to get rid of Mesut Ozil as soon as possible, because the German is offering them absolutely nothing at the moment.

The 30-year-old has endured a woeful campaign with the Gunners this term, often missing important matches, and frequently being substituted off when he does actually play.

Ozil signed for Arsenal from Real Madrid in the summer of 2013, and he has gone on to chalk up 41 goals and 73 assists in 212 appearances in all competitions.

The former Germany international is somewhat of an anomaly, however. When he’s on form he is one of the best attacking midfielders in the world, but unfortunately for him and Gunners fans, that seems to be a very rare occasion nowadays.

And Merson believes Arsenal should get shot of Ozil, explaining how they need his wages off the books at the Emirates, when speaking exclusively to the Daily Star:

“Arsenal have got to get rid of Mesut Ozil. They need his wages off the books because he is giving them nothing at the moment. He hardly ever plays and, when he does, the manager is taking him off at half-time. You can’t justify paying him that much money if he isn’t starting every game and putting a shift in.”

Ozil currently earns £350,000 per week at Arsenal, and because of that, it will be incredibly hard to move him on next month.

The Gunners seem to have got themselves in an extremely difficult situation with the German, and the only way it might be possible to get rid of him next month would be a mutual agreement to terminate his contract, making him available on a free transfer.

Whether the former Real Madrid ace would be open to that idea, however, is highly doubtful.
