Tottenham Hotspur lost 3-1 at home to Wolves on Saturday.
Tottenham Hotspur suffered a shock home defeat at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday afternoon – and did it in front of a recent target.
Spurs had been in blistering form heading into Saturday’s game, and could have moved three points behind Liverpool before the Reds faced Arsenal at Anfield.
It all started so perfectly for Mauricio Pochettino’s side; Harry Kane smashed a stunning left-footed drive past Rui Patricio and into the top corner of the net to put Spurs into a 1-0 lead.
However, Tottenham faded badly in the second half, and completely fell apart late in the day as Willy Boly, Raul Jimenez and Helder Costa all scored to give Wolves a 3-1 victory.
With Liverpool beating Arsenal later in the day, Spurs are now nine points behind the Reds, and title talk has already died down.
Pochettino may be keen on January signings, and one player linked with Tottenham in 2018 was intriguingly sat in the Wembley stands to watch Spurs in action.
The Mirror reported in January 2018 that Spurs had made enquiries about signing Hamburg teenager Jann-Fiete Arp, but no deal went through.
The 18-year-old is one of German football’s top young talents, but has failed to find the net in the second division for Hamburg so far this season.
Arp was though watching on as Spurs lost on Saturday, posting a photo on Instagram from Wembley as he embraced watching his hero Kane in action.
His presence may kickstart rumours of a move to Spurs again, but until he impresses more in the second division in Germany, a deal next month would be a shock.
