Bolton Wanderers’ Jason Lowe started at right-back against Rotherham United on Boxing Day.

Bolton Wanderers supporters have taken to Twitter to comment on manager Phil Parkinson’s claims that midfielder Jason Lowe is better player at right-back following his success at Rotherham United on Wednesday.
Lowe was signed in the summer from rivals Blackburn Rovers and has predominantly featured in central midfield. With Pawel Olkowski dropping to the bench, however, Lowe featured at right-back on Boxing Day.
The Trotters managed to pull off a much-needed victory over their Championship relegation rivals, and Lowe had a decent game with Phil Parkinson now claiming he had full confidence in him at fullback.
“Lowey has played a lot of his career at right-back and when we brought him in over the summer a few managers said ‘he’s a good midfielder but he’s a better right-back’. We knew if we moved him there he gives us quality on the ball and experience as well,” Parkinson told Bolton News.
But not all Bolton fans aren’t convinced about Parkinson’s comments:
Lowe, 27, has started 23 of Bolton’s league fixtures this season – with 15 of those coming as a holding midfielder, and seven pushed a little further forward in central midfield (Whoscored). He had a decent game against Rotherham, making one key pass and recording five effective clearances (Whoscored), and he linked up well with right-sided midfielder Gary O’Neill.
But the Millers don’t have the best attack in the division, and against Stoke City’s Tom Ince this weekend, Parkinson could be taking a big risk by deploying Lowe in a fullback role again.
