According to a report from the Daily Mirror, Newcastle could make a January bid for Leeds striker Kemar Roofe if Rafa Benitez is given funds to spend when the window opens.

Roofe has enjoyed a stunning season in the Championship, with 13 goals coming already, including three across the two stunning comebacks against Aston Villa and Blackburn Rovers over Christmas.

Leeds will want to keep the forward, but the Daily Mirror reports that Benitez is a fan of the 25-year-old and is planning to make a move next month if he is given money to spend.

Newcastle reportedly wish to strengthen their goalscoring options. But you would imagine that Leeds would need to receive a bid that sees the Whites make a huge profit on the £3 million that they spent in 2016 before they even consider letting him leave.

Leeds would have surely anticipated there being interest in Roofe in January given his remarkable form this season. And the Elland Road faithful will be hoping that the reports spur the Whites hierarchy to take action over his contract situation.

The Daily Mirror recently reported that his deal expires at the end of next season. The report suggested that Leeds plan to open talks with him in the very near future, but they may perhaps want to bring those discussions forward now that he is reportedly being monitored by a top flight side.
