Emilio Izaguirre endured a bit of a shocker for Celtic on Boxing Day.

Quite a lot of Celtic fans aren’t happy with Emilio Izaguirre’s latest outing – and rightly so.

Celtic edged out Aberdeen in a seven-goal thriller at Pittodrie this afternoon, winning 4-3.

But it was no thanks to the Honduras left-back, who manager Brendan Rodgers took off at half time.

The 32-year-old defender, who earns £21,000 per week at Parkhead [Daily Star], conceded a silly first-half penalty, which Stevie May converted to make it 1-1.

It was so needless, in fact, that Hoops legend Chris Sutton labelled him ‘daft’ on Twitter.

And suffice to say that many fans of the Parkhead club weren’t any kinder than Sutton, whose remarks look soft in comparison.

Here is the best of the reaction:

With Kieran Tierney absent, this was a big chance for Izaguirre – re-signed by Rodgers this past summer – to impress, but the chance passed him by completely.

He may even be Rodgers’s third-choice left-back now, after Jonny Hayes did a solid job in what was an unfamiliar role for the Irishman against his old side.

In truth, the Northern Irish manager needs a better left-back than Izaguirre and Hayes. The gulf from them to Tierney is ridiculously big and, really, the young Scot doesn’t have anywhere near enough competition.
