Newcastle United and Fulham played out a 0-0 draw on Saturday.
Newcastle United couldn’t make it two wins in a row on Saturday afternoon as they drew 0-0 at home to Fulham on Saturday afternoon.
The Magpies had beaten Huddersfield Town 1-0 last weekend, but were hoping to see off another Premier League struggler on Saturday, this time back at St James’ Park.
Rafael Benitez’s men couldn’t find the cutting edge though and could only muster a 0-0 draw, becoming the first Premier League side this season to fail to find the net against Fulham.
It was a frustrating afternoon for Newcastle and a dour game for the neutral, and even Aleksandar Mitrovic couldn’t provide the entertainment.
Sold by Newcastle to Fulham over the summer, many were backing Mitrovic to either score or get sent off, with his talent and hot streak both predicted.
In the end, he did neither. Newcastle kept the Serbian at bay, and he didn’t let his emotions get the better of him either upon his first return to St James’ Park.
Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez froze Mitrovic out last season, sent him out on loan to Fulham in January and then sold him, with some questioning those decisions in light of Newcastle’s lack of goals.
There was clearly no bad blood between the pair though as they embraced at full time having seen each other for the first time since the move, which was possibly more polite than some may have expected.
