The leaked release date for Naughty Dog’s The Last Of Us Part 2 is too good to be true.

A listing for Naughty Dog’s The Last Of Us Part 2 has surfaced on Amazon Italy, and it has a release date of March 29, 2019. If this is true, then we’ll be returning to the post-apocalyptic wasteland with Joel and Ellie way before any of us anticipated.

Fans of The Last Of Us should be sceptical of this leak as the game would be releasing in March with Devil May Cry 5 and The Division 2 without any significant build-up. Unilad noted that Sony announced Spider-Man’s release date only three months before launch, but there’s a major difference between Marvel’s most iconic superhero and a popular video game property. The webcrawler is a hero for all ages so his financial success was always guaranteed, meanwhile Joel and Ellie are original and relatively new characters that remain unknown to a good chunk of people.

Marvel’s Spider-Man also had a lot of trailers and gameplay demos before its release, in contrast to The Last Of Us Part 2 which has only been shown sparingly. Yes, Naughty Dog said the game was around 60 percent complete back in December 2017, but there’s more factors to a video game’s launch than it just being finished.

While a March 2019 release isn’t unfathomable, it’s a highly unlikely dream fans shouldn’t be sucked into. It would undoubtedly be amazing to play The Last Of Us Part 2 as early as possible, but the game’s likely availability will either be late 2019 or 2020. For all anybody knows, the sequel to Sony’s best exclusive could be a PS5 launch title to gurantee console pre-orders.
