Mats Hummels could reportedly leave Bundesliga champions Bayern in January with Tottenham Hotspur allegedly interested.

Tottenham Hotspur have made a habit of signing promising, up-and-coming talents over the last few years from Dele Alli to Heung Min Son, Kieran Trippier to Ben Davies.

In truth, it is rare to see established, top-class talents arrive in North London with Lucas Moura, who signed last January after a trophy-laden spell at Paris Saint-Germain, one of the few exceptions.

So reports from Germany that Spurs have made contact with the agent of Bayern Munich defender Mats Hummels will certainly raise plenty of eyebrows.

Bild have claimed that Hummels could leave the Allianz Arena as early as January as he is unhappy with his reduced role under Niko Kovac. The 2014 World Cup winner is now behind Niklas Sule and Jerome Boeteng in the pecking order.

Bild add that a move to England is a possibility and, according to TZ, Hummels’ agent Mark Kosice has been in London and has held talks with both Tottenham and Chelsea.

And the prospect of one of the most decorated centre-backs in the modern era moving to Tottenham will surely capture the imagination. The 30-year-old has lifted four Bundsliga titles with Dortmund and Bayern and would be a proven winner in a Tottenham side of nearly-men.

Marca claimed on Wednesday that Bayern are hoping to sign Atletico Madrid’s French international Lucas Hernandez, who could be Hummels’ long-term successor.
